Brilla FC’s Chavez Named PDL Player of the Week

Forward recorded four goals in three wins this past week

In a three-win week for Mississippi Brilla FC, forward Gerber ‘Junior’ Chavez was lights out in attack, knocking in four goals to lead his team and earn PDL Player of the Week honors in Week 6.

Chavez opened the week on Tuesday with a hat-trick at home in Brilla FC’s 4-1 win over Memphis City FC. He followed that by grabbing his fourth goal on Friday in a thrilling 4-3 win over Tri-Cities Otters, and though he didn’t score in the team’s 2-0 win over Memphis City FC on Sunday, Chavez did play another 87 minutes up top.

Here’s a full look at the PDL National Team of the Week in Week 6.

GK - Andreu Cases, FC Tucson: In back-to-back nights at the Kino Sports Complex against Colorado Pride Switchbacks U23, Cases pitched a pair of shutouts, bringing his total to three on the year.
D - Peter Pearson, Des Moines Menace: On the road, the Menace earned a pair of shutout wins over the Chill and Winnipeg, in which Pearson also grabbed an assist.
D - Conner Antley, South Georgia Tormenta FC: In a pair of wins for Tormenta FC this week, Antley helped record a shutout against the Mutiny while recording an assist.
D - Uros Ilic, Ocean City Nor’easters: In the lone match of the week for the Nor’easters, Ilic went the full 90 minutes in the team’s second-straight shutout win, 1-0 over Evergreen FC.
M - Rey Ortiz, Portland Timbers U23: In the Timbers U23’s midweek shutout win over Cascadia rivals Sounders FC U23, Ortiz pulled the strings in midfield to the tune of two assists.
M - Luka Prpa, Chicago FC United: Another two wins for Chicago FC United saw Prpa continue his hot start to the season, orchestrating the midfield and picking up a goal in the team’s 2-0 win over the Chill.
M - Thomas Menke, Brazos Valley Cavalry F.C.: As Cavalry F.C. took down Corpus Christi FC, 4-2, this week, Menke provided a brace to open the scoring in the first half.
M - Patrick Seagrist, Charlotte Eagles: While the Eagles soared to a 6-1 win over the Carolina Dynamo, Seagrist knocked in two goals before going the full 90 in the team’s scoreless draw at Lionsbridge FC.
F - Andre Bava Shinyashiki, Colorado Rapids U23: While helping the Rapids U23 continue their perfect start with two wins, Shinyashiki struck four times, including the game-winner on Saturday night.
F - Gerber ‘Junior’ Chavez, Mississippi Brilla FC: In three matches and three wins for Brilla FC, Chavez struck four times, including a hat-trick on Tuesday against Memphis City FC.
F - Jose Aldaco, Weston FC: Aldaco was a one-man show in Weston FC’s 3-2 win over FC Miami City, scoring all three goals himself in a hat-trick performance for the team’s first win of the season.
