Butler University’s David Goldsmith, who helped the Michigan Bucks clinch their third PDL title in club history on Aug. 6, headlines PDL players who earned Big East Preseason All-Conference Team honors.
Goldsmith scored a header in the PDL Championship against Calgary Foothills FC, and he is one of five PDL participants named to the Big East All-Conference Team ahead of the 2016 college campaign. Burlingame Dragons FC goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, Cincinnati Dutch Lions forward Matt Vasquenza, FC Boston forward Mac Steeves and New York Red Bulls U23 midfielder Arun Basuljevic were also selected by Big East coaches.
Providence College’s Steeves, who scored one goal in three games for FC Boston during the 2016 regular season, was voted Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Georgetown University’s Marcinkowski earned Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Xavier University's Vasquenza and Georgetown University's Basuljevic had standout seasons for their PDL sides. Vasquenza played 10 games for the Dutch Lions during the 2016 regular season, while Basuljevic led the Red Bulls U23 in goals and assists while also earning 2016 PDL All-League Team honors.
