WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Today the USL announced that Salem City FC will begin play in USL League Two in 2024. The season will be the club’s first of competitive soccer.

“Welcoming a new team means more talent, more community pride, and more opportunities for growth and development in our sport,” Chris Williams, Salem City FC Head Coach, said. “It’s an exciting challenge for all involved that we fully embrace. Our goal is to create a team that our community can be proud of, a team that can build on the successes of previous years, and a team that can challenge nationally year in, year out.”

The club has a rich history and tradition that dates to the Carolina Dynamo, one of the most successful teams in USL League Two’s history. The club was founded in 1993 and joined USL League Two in 2003. In 2018, the Carolina Dynamo merged with NC Fusion, a new merger between Greensboro Soccer Club and the Twin City Soccer Association, to form a comprehensive soccer organization that serves players of all ages and levels. NC Fusion continued the club’s high-level legacy with four conference titles, four division titles and one national final appearance.

Now, the club has been purchased by a private group and will continue under the name Salem City FC, speaking to their roots as a local organization in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The club’s mission is to use soccer as a positive vehicle in the community, prioritizing youth development and social impact.

“I’m incredibly happy that Salem City FC is going to be continuing the rich tradition of elite pre-professional soccer in North Carolina,” Joel Nash, USL SVP, Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. “There has been a League Two presence in the area for over two decades now, and I’m thrilled that streak is continuing.
