Pinellas County club is 122nd team in League Two this season

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Today the USL announced that St. Petersburg FC will be the latest club to join USL League Two.

“Joining USL League Two has been a target of ours for many years,” SPFC officials said. “We are steadfast in our belief that USL has the correct model and vision for its players, clubs, and partners.”

The club’s mission is to use soccer to connect with the local Pinellas County community, through local initiatives and paying homage to the city of St. Petersburg with their name and image. They want to make soccer accessible for all talent in the area.

Their colors feature the pink of the iconic Don Cesar hotel, the blue of the Gulf of Mexico and the yellow of the sand found on its many beaches.

“It’s so exciting to welcome St. Petersburg FC to the USL ecosystem,” Joel Nash, USL VP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties, said. “This region has a proven affinity for soccer, we’ve been able to see that firsthand. We can’t wait to see what this club accomplishes in League Two.”

The club says it’s partnerships with civic leadership, community organizations, and local foundations will anchor the commitment to reinvest in underserved sports facilities and programs to bring the game of soccer to everyone.
